Welcome to Apex Chess: a premier source for chess instruction in Alaska!
Apex Chess is one of the primary sources for classroom-based chess instruction in Anchorage.
Apex Chess was founded to better teach the game of chess to the Anchorage community and grow the Alaskan chess player base.
The next generation of Alaskan chess players is being established one class at a time, with offerings starting Fall 2026!

Reilly O'Hara
Reilly O'Hara
Reilly O'Hara is the Founder and Managing Director of Apex Chess. Reilly has been an avid chess player since he was in elementary school and brings with him over two decades of chess playing experience. He recently started teaching chess in 2025 with a handful of students in his inaugural class.
Reilly also currently serves as the founding President and Treasurer of the Alaska Chess Federation- a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and the Alaska State Chapter Affiliate of the United States Chess Federation.
